Establishing the Toy Universe

Exterior

An eerie scene of carnage from a battle long ago. Almost too errie, the carnage seems stylistically arranged, almost as if a monorail of tourists might pass overhead at any moment. Abandoned tanks, humvees and fuel trucks are surrounded by skeletons and logistical paraphenalia. Lively and discordant graphics flash on the surfaces of the vehicles. Dire warnings of radiation contamination are pulsed by blue strobe lights, perhaps have been for hundreds of years. The entire ensemble is centered around the improbable blasted doors of a Nuclear Waste Repository. Something pushed those doors out with great force, partiall melting them and vitrifying the surrounding rock wall in the process. Perhaps DU minitions, a balrog? Who can say?

[Foreground close-up of transport tire, perhaps cracked semi flat, oxidized. Background, indistinct shapes of armor, etc. Mediatronics, a few dead birds. Slight breeze rustles prayer flags snagged on the tanks, American flag.on the ground, billowing. Whip antennaes swaying in breeze. Wind emenates from tunnel? Uniform scraps around skeletons.]

Interior

Within, a middle aged dude in a business suit fiddles with a handheld device. He is watching security camera footage, live. A woman sits in a chair, popping bubble wrap. A man dozes in a heavy coat. Two other business men joking in Japanese. He randomly scrolls through the interface, looking at maps an other monitoring data. Then, he flips to shortwave scan and pockets the device. He rapidly accelerates out of a tunnel and into the carnage, improbably peddling a bicycle. He swerves around the skeletons as if on rails, running over one humerus, which makes an awful crack as it seperates from the shoulder. Joe rides away to the sound of fading shortwave broadcasts. After a moment, there's a whirring of concealed motors and the humerus is drawn back into the shoulder by a cable, clicking into place. M50s, Mediatronic boxes.

Notes

Different elevations and angles in the approach sequences. Why? Looking at specific details, low to the ground like a dangling tusk phone, up high at the nuke repository sign.  The ghosts of the future were waiting when P and I made these shots.

Uncle Joe's bike path

Calculations

The approach to Joe's hideout could be (at least) a three stage process, as there are three sets of shots - far (< 600 ft), mid (< 300 ft) and (close < 100 ft). Everything is reverse engineered from the shot of Uncle Joe riding away on the bike eg the reverse of a close shot, see the test "Uncle Joe leaving his secret lair" above. OF COURSE Patrick and I didn't take any measurements on location at the abandoned turnpike 🙂 The following sketches give a rough estimate of 90' for the depth of the close reverse.

The height of close reverse is about 4.5 Uncle Joe's high. He's about half as high at the top of the frame as he is at the bottom. The camera was about 20' above the ground.

Another guess was how far the edge of the tunnel was from the bottom of the frame. I guessed about 15', so the top of the frame is about 100' from the tunnel.

Having gotten some sense of the size of close reverse, mid and far distances follow. Only 'close' and 'close reverse' have to match.

The foreground Abrams and containers in the mediatronic test above are at mid, about 300' from the tunnel. The Abrams in the background might be within 100' of the tunnel or at the very top of the frame in close reverse.

Signage – This Hideyhole® espionage command center is currently cloaked by the nuclear waste repository scenario, a durable, all weather glamour that provides an effective deterrent to refugees when used as directed. The corpse simulations are printed with patented Fungal Synthex ® for realism in both sight, scent and feel and are virtually indiscernible from human tissue without cross referenced DNA analysis, while remaining impervious to decomposition and inedible for decades. So whether trysting with an apprentice spy or deploying a major operation, count on Hideyhole to stay super top secret. Coded to you and your teams unique etheric aural prints.

The nuclear waste repository is a choreographed fake. It’s meant to scare off the curious (and terminate the unauthorized).

Production Notes

There's multiple fixed shots of the tunnel for each distance. Using all of them quickly then settling on one? OR just one shot for each distance? Which approach give a longer / deeper engagement with the scene?

Elliminating shots that are overexposed, soft focus, bugs, contrails

For signage and boxes, add objects into the scene and then perspective will be there for shifting angles, no guessing.

choose a longer shot to hang on after flipping through views

When Joe is ejaculated, can there be ghost sperm in the white flash, heading out with him?
