Songwriters of the Shire
Brothers Cazimero 1987, Come Become Hawaii
I bought a 2012 Kubota tractor with a cab, and it came equipped with a CD player. I love CDs, I love physical media actually, and back in the day I was in Hawaii visiting friends who were living there and I bought a bunch of music, including a CD by the Brothers Cazimero, produced in 1987, Come Become Hawaii. Anyway, I dug out my giant folder of CDs, and popped this one in, I hadn't listened to it in maybe 20 years? And it's a little but smaltzy, I admit but also achingly beautiful, and I remembered my magic time in Hawaii and I feel like I was really connecting to what these guys were singing about, the splendor and power of that place, or places, islands.
So I got to thinking, why don't we have any songs about this magic place, Benzie County? I loaned this CD to my friend Lauren, cause she and Josh just bought a used Sienna minivan that ALSO has a CD player, and she says it puts her newborn to sleep, she loves that CD too. So my latest brainwave for the barn is a song writers workshop, almost a challenge or a nudge to the musicians I know and love in the shire, hey let's write songs about Benzie and Manistee, let's celebrate this land and water, the wilds, the people here, the love. Let's create songs to pass around and sing together.
