Sidney Lumet

Before the Devil Knows Your Dead

Just finished.  If you're making a feature and you have a short fall on the budget, you can plan to repeat scenes with different camera set ups and add all sorts of silly timeline lower thirds. Of course, i doubt that was SL's situation, but it really felt like a gimmick, didn't add to the story. A very sad and slightly pointless tale of two sons sporting great psychic chasms that couldn't be filled, and a really horror show father. None of the characters really shines except Marisa Tomei's, who kept the movie watchable with her sultry ennui. This was SL's last film, and probably we'll continue to review his projects here, because his book is decent.
