plan, realistic evaluations, unrealistic predictions, editorial
we watched two movies yesterday and still have not solved the exposition question. the house is a mess and there are no hard drives posted on craigs. we have to realize that I can not waste anymore days. I’ve got to have finishing plan, and that means going through each stage and completing it before moving on to the next. Our past strategy has been to test various approaches, but what i need to cultivate right now is that genius of creation, how to make something really fine.
The problem we are up against is that we are starting the movie twice. act 1 is now and introduction which should take us right to the main show. where then does the exposition come in? is there room for it? are we just going to let it go? perhaps yesterday was not wasted in that we’ve had the time to realize that the approach of slapping in some exposition is not going to work, there has to be some true breakthrough. some flash of brilliance. the current approach is not bad, it’s just not great. also what i’ve learned about the previous edit is that it wasn’t finished, it was fat. that i can slice off more now is a sign that i didn’t finish it before (talking about the second act) there is no blame here, only clarity.
